Environmentally Controlled Opportunity Classrooms (ECO Classrooms)

Updated: 26/01/2009

CASLE once fostered the installation of ECO classrooms in schools. In recent years, in Nova Scotia at least, the Department of Education has focused on providing healthy schools for all students. This is based on the belief that all students and staff deserve healthy schools, not just those with environmental sensitivities. Teachers and students with environmental sensitivities and other illnesses such as asthma have been transferring into our Healthy New Schools and finding their health and performance much improved. Being “new” is not the reason. New schools not built using the Healthy School Design and Construction guidelines (see CASLE’s website) do not have the same degree of success.

However, the information in these papers on Eco classroom creation and use is still valuable.
