Project Description

The Healthy Child Care program has been operating in New Brunswick for two years. It is funded by the EcoAction community funding program of Environment Canada with additional help from the New Brunswick Departments of Health and Social Development. Through this program, staffs and parents of about 20 participating child care facilities have been surveyed regarding their operations from an environmental health perspective. They have then received recommendations about simple actions they can take to improve their facilities and practices to make them environmentally more healthy and their practices more sustainable. Some of the actions they have taken involve recycling, using more reusable products, such as personalized cloth changing pads and face cloths, cleaning with less toxic products where sanitizing is not required, composting, and greening their playground. Participants during the pilot and first year of the program received a binder of resources.

Those resources are now available bilingually on the New Brunswick Lung Association Website: www.nb.lung.ca / www.nb.poumon.ca
